Construction of Polyurea

The process is described through the example of Masterseal 678, one of BASF’s Polyurea products.

Main Application:

Waterproofing of large structures exposed to aggressive waters. Typical application areas include: High speed Railway Bridge, Water containment areas, Primary & Secondary containment tanks, Waste water treatment tanks, Protection & waterproofing of infrastructures. The coating membrane is high resistance to common chemicals.
Using a specially designed spraying machine, the two components are pre- heated and spray applied, to rapid curing, elastic, waterproofing membrane.

Treatment of substrate:

Repair voids, cracks and unevenness in substrates before application.
Keep the polyurea material cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather.
Remove all surface contaminants; ensure substrate is dry.
Avoid application during rain.
Homogenize Part B before application.
Apply by spraying uniformly to recommended thickness using recommended spray machine.
The polyurea material is applied approximately at 1.05 – 2.1 kg/m2. This corresponds to a cured film thickness of approx. 1.0 – 2.0mm. For optimal mechanical and chemical performance, a minimum thickness of 1.5mm is recommended. Details, corners require a higher coverage rate up to 4.0kg/m2 or more.

Cleaning:

Clean tools, machine parts with Methylene Chloride.
