Vinyl Resin-Glass Flake System
Glass flakes closely array in parallel in the coating, being a multi-layer barrier, provide a long-term protection to the substrate. The system has strong resistance to rust, permeability, thermal, water, alkali and other chemicals as well as stable performance and strong hiding power. It is easy to repair the damage even after several years’ using, only simply process will be OK.

Scope of application:
The surface anticorrosion for chemical, oil pipe, tank and metal structures, etc. The system has extremely excellent resistance to the corrosive medium in flue gas desulfurization device. The permeability of medium, gas, water vapor is far less than that of ordinary glass fiber reinforced plastic. It is not easy for the system to produce medium diffusion so it can effectively prevent corrosion at the bottom, peeling, and so on. The system is especially suitable for the anticorrosion for complicated surface.
Construction requirements:
1. In case of low temperatures, construction time interval should be extended, curing of previous coat shall be the criterion.2. The final coating under the room temperature (25℃) needs 48 hours curing time. According to the national standards, complete maintenance time should be more than 10 days.3. During construction, avoid any water contact the coating. In case of rainy day, stop the construction to protect the coated film.Usually fit for water exposure after 7days curing.4. The construction site should be well ventilation. Forbidden to flame. The product storage should be well ventilation, cool, dry and far away from fire.
Construction process:A. Surface pre-treatment:Surface must be prepared by abrasive blasting to de-rusting till it meets the requirement Sa2.5 level of national standard GB8923—88. To metal surface, the blasting must achieve no welding slag or burr, the welding surface must be smooth and level. The protrude height must be less than 0.5mm, otherwise should grind to meet requirements.
If the substrate is concrete, then the same requirements as for other resin flooring.B. Primer coating:1. Primer coating should be carried out within 8 hours after shot blasting. For metal surface: Clean the liner surface with volatile solvent, only after adequately volatilization can the coating works begin.2. Coating the primer to the substrate, then repair with vinyl mortar.Requirement for metal surface: primer coating must be carried out before visible rusty spots occur on the surface after blasting and air-blowing. If there is rust on the surface, then re-blasting and air- blowing again should be required. The primer coating can be by method of spray, brush, or roller, etc. Don’t carry out primer coating when:(1) The relative humidity of the working area is more than 70%;(2) The metal surface temperature does not exceed the air dew point of working area 3℃;(3) The temperature of metal surface or working area is higher than 32℃ or lower than 10℃;(4) There is dust, dirt or moisture on the metal surface.C. Glass flake construction:1. Place the glass flake mortar on the substrate surface, then coat in one direction by trowel, thickness of each layer should not be greater than 1 mm, coating intervals ought to be 12 hours (or according to the requirements of material specification).2. After coating the glass flake mortar, rolling in time till it is smooth and uniform before its initial setting, (also can de-foaming);3. Keep the surface clean during the construction, if there are flowing marks, drops or bumps, grind to flat and level;4. The connection of interface in same level should be slope instead of docking.5. Don’t set construction joint to the whole surface, if necessary, set a slope interface. Clean the slope interface before the following construction.6. Intersecting trowel principle: require intersecting trowel for each flake coating to compensate for the different coating thickness, and it is useful to fill and seal the pores due to fluff.7. After curing of the glass flake, repair any defects, then coating a layer of top coat.D. Lining construction:1. Before the lining construction, the primer should not have been coated more than two weeks ( if under direct sunlight: 1week), and the primer should not be sticky.2. Don’t carry out the lining construction when:(1) The relative humidity of the working area is more than 70%;(2) The surface temperature does not exceed the air dew point of working area 3℃;(3) The temperature of the working surface or working area is higher than 32℃ or lower than 10℃;E. Top coat construction:1. Mix the top coat material according to the supplier’s material specification;2. Coat by brush or roller evenly.3. Coat the top coat continuously again after at least 4hours interval.4. Final inspection by the four parts: owner, supervisor, contractor and subcontractor.F. The repair of glass flake lining:1. Repair scaffolding trace;2. Carefully grind the metal surface to de-rusting thoroughly, then primer coating.3. Grind the peripheral flake lining to be a slope that meets with requirement of standard;4. Coat the flake mortar layer by layer according to the requirement to flake lining, its thickness is little beyond the thickness of lining. Repair area should be greater than twice the diameter.5. The following defects must be repaired usually:(1) Lining pinhole;(2) Surface damage;(3) Obvious impurities in the layer;(4) The lining area of insufficient thickness;(5) The lining area of inadequate curing;(6) The area of surface flowing;(7) Supplement coating for scaffolding supporting points.Repair process: First grinding the defects to be smooth waveform pits (For pinhole: polishing to the surface of the metal substrate) by grinding machine. Be sure to eliminate the defects completely. Then clean the area with solvent. Finally supplement coating according to the flake lining construction method.G. Quality control of glass flake coating layer:Glass flake coating layer directly influences the quality of its anticorrosion performance and service life, therefore strictly control the quality of glass flake coating is very important. Final detection to the coating mainly includes: Macroscopic defects inspection; Hardness; Pinhole detection (for metal surface); Re-viscid testing; Thickness measurement; Hammering.
